The World Senior Karate Championships 2012 will take place from 21 to 25 November 2012 at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy.
The World Senior Karate Championships are held every two years. In 2012, Paris will host the 21st edition of the World Championships. It will be the second time, after 1972, that the French Federation welcomes the competition. The first edition was organized in Tokyo in 1970. Since their creation the World Championships gather an increasing number of participants. In Paris this year, more than 100 countries and 1000 athletes are expected. During this championships, 16 titles will be awarded to the kata and kumite competitors:
kata categories : individual female kata / individual male kata / female team kata / male team kata Karate word means "the art of fighting with bare hands". Francis DIDIER, President of the French Federation of Karate and Associated Disciplines : "In the learning of Karate, there are several technics because the fighting distances are different. The karate practiced during competitions uses long and short distances, but rarely the short ranges which are reserved for self defense techniques. These short ranges fighting technics were practiced on the Island of Okinawa, it is that we name commonly the "Traditionnal Karate". For example, in fencing, it's impossible to compare the sword fighting technics applied during real battles with the technics actually used in competition. It is the same for the Karate."
Competition Kata : It is a detailed and choreographed sequence of movements. These movements are unchanging , and stay the same through time. It is practiced against imaginary opponents and based on idealized combat applications.
Fight's karate of competition :
In Japanese, it is called "Kumite". The competition Kumite opposes two athletes during a given time on a tatami. An athlete is red (belt and protections) and the other is blue (belt and protections) to differentiate them.

Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy
The competition will take place at the “Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy” often abbreviated as POPB or Bercy, from 21st to 25th November 2012. The seating varies from 7,000 to 17,000 depending on the event. For the World Karate Championships, the layout of the POPB will enable to welcome more than 14,000 spectators. Inside of the complex, the seating surrounds entirely the competition area. The main hall offers a perfect visibility from any part, as there are no carrier posts on the bleachers. The OrganisersThe World Senior Karate Championships are an official competition of the World Karate Federation (WKF). The WKF has entrusted the French Karate Federation with the organization of this 21st edition. The President of the French Federation of Karate , Mr Francis DIDIER, received in October 2010 during the closing ceremony of the World Championships in Belgrade, the flag of the World Karate Federation. This flag, symbol of the World Championships will be present in November 2011, at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy.
